Ridley Scott Making a Youtube Movie?

Oscar-winning director Ridley Scott (ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, GLADIATOR) is teaming up with director Kevin Macdonald (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND) to bring together a project titled, LIFE IN A DAY, which would “document one day, as seen through the eyes of people around the world” using uploaded Youtube videos.

This “historic cinematic experiment” would use videos uploaded to the video sharing website on July 24th.

“You have 24 hours to capture a snapshot of your life on camera,” YouTube said in a blog post. “You can film the ordinary — a sunrise, the commute to work, a neighborhood soccer match, or the extraordinary — a baby’s first steps, your reaction to the passing of a loved one, or even a marriage,” it said.

Contributors whose footage makes the final cut will be credited as co-director and 20 will be selected to attend the premiere. Macdonald will edit the footage into a documentary film, while Scott will produce. The full-length documentary will premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival in Utah in January.
