Andrew Garfield Is Spider-Man!

Sony has announced that Andrew Garfield, whom can soon be seen in David Fincher’s The Social Network and Mark Romanek’s Never Let You Go, and has made appearances in Boy A and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, will star in Marc Webb’s upcoming reboot of Spider-Man as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker,” said director Mark Webb of Garfield’s casting.

Producer Laura Ziskin added, “in the end, we all agreed that in addition to being an extraordinary actor, Andrew had the right mix of humor, youth, and pathos, along with an underlying sense of strength and power necessary to bring Peter Parker and Spider-Man to life on screen.”

So, what does everyone think? Good casting? Bad casting? Or are you just happy to not have to deal with lists and lists of possible contenders for the role?

    Bad casting once again.
British…what, we don’t have enough American actors to play an american Peter Parker?
26 years old – supposedly the story will be yet again another freaking origin story (we don’t another one) and Peter is in high school.
    Everything about this just wrong.
Sony needs to lose the movie rights because ever since Spider-man 3 they have been messing up.

Actually, the film is said to begin after Peter Parker already has his super powers, but will maintain the high school location, much like the original comic book series.
