Frank Frazetta (1928 – 2010)

Legendary artist Frank Frazetta passed away Monday (May 10) from a stroke. He was 82. Frazetta’s covers for Edgar Rice Burroughs books (Conan The Barbarian series, Tarzan) are respected and loved around the world, as are his depictions of Vampirella and Lord of the Rings.

In 1983, he worked alongside Ralph Bakshi on the film Fire and Ice, which grew from being a commercial flop and into a cult classic. Finally, in 2003, a documentary titled Frazetta – Painting With Fire was released (a fantastic documentary, by the way).

The news of his death hits me hard, as my late grandfather was an excessive fan of Frazettta’s work, and even grew inspiration from him and incorporated it into his own work.

There’s a large gallery of the legend’s work at the Unofficial Fan Page. Another year, another legendary man gone. You will be missed.
