New ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Details

USA Today previewed new details of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which is scheduled to release on November 9th. Hit the jump for the details…

– Set during the Cold War in 1968.

– There will be a four-player co-op mode in the game.

– One mission has you flying in a SR-71 Blackbird over the Ural Mountains, watching a team of troops and issuing orders. After that section, the player assumes control of one of the troops in order to infiltrate a Russian facility.

– One of the weapons revealed was a crossbow with a scope for sniping. Also revealed was a new concept: alternate ammo. The crossbow, for example, can switch between normal bolts and ones with explosive heads.

– Treyarch head Mark Lamia says the game will cover a “longer period during this era,” suggesting it could go beyond 1968.

– Input was sought from Maj. John Plaster, a Studies and Observations Group veteran from the Vietnam War, as well as Sonny Puzikas, a former operative in the Soviet special forces.
