UPDATE: ‘Avatar’ Blu-ray Troubles

Apparently, a lot of people are angered over their recently purchased Blu-ray of James Cameron’s Avatar.

“When 3 out of 3 players in my house (Denon, Samsung and PC) won’t play it, then 20th Century Fox should be slapped with losses on this one,” said one irritated customer.

The truth is, there is nothing wrong with the disc itself. And it’s not really the fault of the Blu-ray players themselves. The players have to be updated with almost every new release. If you’re running an outdated firmware, certain discs will not play.

Without an internet connection, the chances are good that the player’s firmware will be outdated. Thus making Avatar unplayable.

This post is pretty much pointless, seeing as how anybody with this problem most likely doesn’t have an internet connection to even read this, but oh well. Food for thought?

Incorrect, the blu-ray players can be updated by downloading the update onto a blank CD or onto a memory stick or flash drive and then transferring the file to your blu-ray player that way. You may also contact the manufacturer of your blu-ray player and they will send you out a disc with the update on it at no charge. A blu-ray player is just like a computer and requires the latest updates to keep up with today’s technological advances. Future titles will also have the same new and advanced audio and video enhancements including future updates such as the PS3 which is slated to have an update to feature 3D technology next year. Love those PS3’s. So keep up with your firmware updates for your blu-ray player every 4 months and you’re good to go! Some manufacturers have produced updates, however, those updates still have some issues, so hold onto your Avatar discs for another week or two and expect a revised update to be out very soon.

Thank you for more clarity, Anonymous.

I heard there’s a problem with the Blu-ray AND the DVD. Apparently on all machines, instead of Avatar, Dances With Wolves starts playing instead! Don’t worry, no one can tell the difference.
